Ok. I have been unable to eat yeast bread for YEARS until recently. I am going to share my great new discovery....shortly. First, I’ll explain why I couldn’t eat yeast and a few other facts about candida.
What is Candida?
Candida is a type of yeast that is a common member of the human gut flora. It doesn’t live outside the human body. Healthy candida levels are vital for proper nutrient absorption and helps protect the intestinal tract from other infections. It can, in some people, be thrown out of balance, causing an overgrowth yo happen. Symptoms can be anywhere from mild to severe. There are many possible causes, including diet, a round of strong antibiotics, diabetes, cancer treatments, hormonal imbalances and so mush more.
Some sites I found helpful for information were:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candida_(fungus)
https://www.cdc.gov/fungal/diseases/candidiasis/index.html
I do suggest you be careful about some sites you visit, as they love to use scare tactics and mix fact with fiction, just like most search results when checking google.
My experience with Candida Overgrowth:
As some of my readers know, I have a condition called Endometriosis. Research has shown that for many people Ruth Endometriosis, they often battle Candida imbalance and Overgrowth because of the hormonal imbalance, chronic pain, and strains of living with Endometriosis. I am one of those people. When Candida is out of balance, bakers yeast is a big painful no-no. The bakers yeast feeds and helps the candida keep growing. Personally, I bloat and become extremely gassy. The quick increase in gas causes pain as my body tries to deal with and get rid of the quickly increasing gas pressure... not a fun or pleasant thing to go through for sure.
So, I stopped eating anything with bakers yeast. I was quickly amazed at what has bakers yeast in it!!
Pitas
English muffins
Bread
Pizza
Flat bread
Some pastries
Donuts
Plus, some stores add yeast to things like muffins to make them poof more.
It was a bit of a harsh learning curve, but I am so glad I made the change. What I didn’t know, though, is that there is such wonderful things as wild yeast breads.
While doing some other searching, I came across this article, and it got me to thinking:
http://www.candidacrusher.com/can-i-eat-sourdough-bread-on-candida-diet.html
Hmmmm....maybe I can eat some bread. I went looking for recipes and tried some out. I found out that I do not like baking aids bread...I find it not a pleasant taste at all. I learned that yes, there is baking power bread but it just isn’t the same as normal white bread. Think banana bread but as a plain white bread. I was discouraged and once again giving up on bread for my diet.
Then, I recently started attending an Aquafit class, and met some great ladies there. One of them heard my story, and introduced me to a bread that has NO TRADITIONAL BAKERS YEAST IN IT!! I have texted some sourdough and not succeeded because most starters have traditional yeast in them to start off with. This bread, called tartine bread, is just a few simple ingredients and no added yeast. I have been blessed to be able to test the bread and so far, no issues with the bread!! I am still dealing with Candida issues, but the bread only affects me in regards to how many carbs I intake in a day. Candida LOVES carbs, and I know that I can eat carbs as long as it is sparingly.
I had beef dip on Sunday with this bread and it was AMAZING! I haven’t had beef dip in so long. Wraps just do not work for a beef dip at all...trust me I tried.
Today, I get to add a couple different varieties to my morning toast choices. The wonderful baker dropped off a fresh loaf with sesame seeds in it, and a loaf with sunflower seeds in it. Plus, they encouraged me to let my family try it too!! I’m excited to try some, so it will be toasted egg sandwiches for breakfast tomorrow morning for the family.
I’ll keep you posted on how this goes, and where you can find this delicious bread once they finish fine tuning the recipe and start selling these specialty loaves.

Life is nuts sometimes.
Ok. I haven't been any better at keeping up with this blog, but I am trying.
I started a second part time job recently, and I have quickly been reminded that life can be crazy at times.
You see, our youngest is in spring basketball for the first time ever. We don't regret the choice of putting her in it, but it can make some nights hectic. My husband is once again playing spring softball once a week, and still does basketball one night a week as well. Combine all that with me working between 30-52 hours a week. . . And life becomes CRAZY!
Any suggestions on how to not go crazy trying to do and keep up with everything life throws at you?

Oh Life
I have this bad habit of sometimes biting off more than I can chew . . . if you know what I mean.
Take the last couple weeks for example:
~ My boss is on holiday so I am working a lot more than usual.
~ I have a side sewing business that I have been trying to build and improve the last couple months.
~ I started selling Tupperware to try and bring in some extra $$$ to help out with expenses.
~ I had a job interview and went through the back check process to see if they would consider hiring me.
~ I have a talk to prepare for church in 2 weeks on a topic that I am at a complete loss how to go about doing with the topic I was given.
~ The Stake choir at church is in need of more members for a special Easter Fireside coming up in a couple weeks and I felt like I could and should possibly attend and join.
~ I have committed to a much needed program on budgeting and financial smarts that takes 2 hrs a week of my time to better keep us on financial point.
~ Add in all the usual mother responsibilities like laundry, cooking, shopping, bills, etc and I realized on Sunday that I had overloaded myself without even realizing it quite quickly.
Lets just say that Sunday afternoon after eating, it seemed that it all hit me at once what I had on my plate and I had a panic attack.
Do you ever have this problem.
I do so well for a few months of learning to say no, and not feeling obligated to say "yes", or let others handle things, trusting that things will work out. . . but I always seem to start to turn back to this bad habit and before I know it, I am overloaded and overwhelmed with Hubby trying his best to simply shake his head and help me get things sorted out.
Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to going to Calgary to help my mom post surgery and taking things slower for a few days...get myself "reset" and ready to start my new job. (yes, the back check came back and I got hired)
What do you do when this happens to you?

New adventure....I hope
I am excited yet nervous for this Saturday. I have my first craft sale. I am doing well at not stressing or having an anxiety attack about it, thankfully. I kept it simple this time and only did a few different things:
Soother straps
Burp Cloths
Wipes/diaper holder
If things go ok, then I will start a Facebook page that will help me sell all sorts of things, as well as offer specialty items, and sign up for another craft sale in the fall.
Part of me hopes it goes well, as this could be a way to increase our income without taking more time out of the home.
Part of me hopes it flops, as I am worried it will take all the fun out of sewing.
Time will tell

Daith Migraine Piercing
Hello. I have been asked by some people I know and some I do not to share my experience with getting a daith piercing for my migraines.
I have suffered with migraines off and on for many years, and used to just do what I could to survive...pain meds, hiding in dark quiet rooms by myself, taking naps if possible to sleep through the worst of the pain. It was hard, and debilitating at times.
Then, a few months ago, my loving hubby told me about someone he knew getting a piercing in both ears to get rid of his horrible migraines. I was a skeptic and dismissed it....what could a piercing do to help headaches?
A short time later, I found out that other people I knew had done the same thing after much thought, and never regretted it. Now I was curious...could it really help? I have had an increasing number of migraines and severe headaches in 2016, and was not liking how they were becoming more frequent. I was willing to at least look into anything that could help.
I am not one to just jump on a band wagon and hope it helps. I had to do some research and see what I could find for info. I found these sites the most helpful for me;
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2016/01/07/daith-piercing-migraine-relief_n_8531022.html
http://www.healthnutnews.com/piercing-new-alternative-anxiety-migrane-relief/

http://metro.co.uk/2015/11/10/do-you-suffer-with-migraines-and-headaches-a-daith-piercing-could-be-the-cure-5492255/
I seriously debated about the info I had found. This works for some but not everyone. It uses a chinese pressure point, and since acupuncture doesn't work for everyone, this can help some and do nothing for others. What if I was one of the ones it didn't work for? It was not an easy piercing, as it goes through cartilage, and takes a long time to heal completely. Plus, it was not a cheap thing to try.
Then I had to massive migraines in one week. the second one, drugs barely made life manageable. I was feeling desperate to try anything. I honestly prayed for guidance, as I didn't want to waste the money, or get any false hopes. I prayed during the worst migraine on a Thursday. I got the piercing done on a Monday . . . and I do not regret it for an instant.
Of the 4 people I know, including myself, who have had this done, none regret it. One was really bad so he got both ears done, and now rarely gets even headaches. One reports significant reduction of frequency and severity. One has gone from daily pain meds to only one headache in 6 months. I personally have not had a migraine since, and I got it a month ago. On a day I would have typically had a severe migraine, I only had a small headache.
The piercing I found hurt, however I went into the parlor with a migraine and left without one. The only thing I find hard is occasionally it really itches when the piercing area gets dry or crusty....but that can be expected with healing. Also, sometimes at the beginning (first couple weeks) I found it ached, but it was a dull pain, and nothing in comparison to the headaches. Some people have had that as well, so I'm not concerned. It worked for me, cost me $68.95 including taxes at the Lucky Squid tattoo parlor. I figured for that price it was worth a try. Also, something my husband has noticed....I used to have rock hard shoulders and back muscles from the clenching and stress of the migraines. Now, they are a lot more relaxed. Also I sleep better and I am not as tired in the morning.
If you decide to go ahead and get one yourself, I strongly suggest a good tattoo parlor as they do these often, and know what they are talking about. With it being a cartilage piercing, safety and sanitary is important. It can take up to 6 months to heal, but it has been a life changer for me. Also, you can get saline solution at any pharmacy....you will need it to soak the piercing site daily while it heals. I got a big contact size bottle at Superstore for under $5. Cotton balls work great at holding the solution on the piercing for the daily “soak” to keep the piercing clean and encourage healing.
I am putting this on here so if anyone had questions like I did, I could help them in their search for answers.

Start Somewhere
Hello, and welcome to the start of my new journey.
You will find spiritual thoughts, life tidbits, every day monotony, and whatever else I feel I want/need to share. I realized that there was things I wanted to share with anyone who wanted to know. Since my family blog is private, I needed a new place to put these thoughts and things down.
Hence, the creation of this blog.
I hope that you feel free to comment, and be honest.
